Talbot De Vil
Bio:
Talbot De Vil is a professional graphic artist obsessed with and quite possibly possessed by cars, motorbikes and rock&roll. Born to a family of creatives this second generation artist studied Graphic Art and Design at both Parsons and The Pratt Institute in New York and The Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
De Vil’s art imitates his life. He often reflects back on a childhood preoccupied with gokarts and minibikes, monster models and slot cars, banana seats and skateboards. Schoolwork often took a backseat to The Munsters and drawing Evel Knievel for hours on end. Refusing to return his father’s Polaroid camera, De Vil was photographing staged action scenes with his Planet of The Apes figures at an even earlier age. In an endless effort to redesign and personalize every possession he had he’d rather varnish his photos, Wacky pack stickers and magazine clippings onto his electric guitar than learn to play the instrument itself. Punk Rock, Ska and New Wave fostered a restless childhood consumed by records & tapes of a Rock and Roll world... Today, De Vil works out of his sunny studio in the Mission District of San Francisco drawing from a lifetime of influences and memories. His painting and photography are reflections of an insatiable curiosity and lifelong passion for bygone culture and character. He drives a customized 1963 Ford Falcon Futura, builds the motorcycles he rides and is an active participant in local and regional car club sponsored shows. Talbot De Vil’s art and his life are truly seamless. |
