Bio:
Colleen’s work is reconstructive, both literally and figuratively. Her work embodies and characterizes her subconscious internal landscape and reflects humanity in all its mental, emotional, and experiential glory. The content of her work rides on top her reused personal trash and strings together her impressions of life and fundamental human truths and dilemmas.
Colleen's explorations are based on the idea that much of the self, and subsequently of humanity, is constructed from a mass of emotions and perceptions formed by the direct experience and the collective experience of one’s family, society, and genealogy. Her work's reconstructive nature reflects that fact and quantifies the complex mental, physical and emotional world of humanity by characterizing the emotions and perceptions that form the framework of her own identity. In learning something about herself, she aims both to gain greater insight into the larger organism of humanity and to connect with other humans. Colleen merges her intuition of the nature of the universe along side her raw life experience. The interplay of these two aspects can be seen in the flow and content of her work. |
