Bio: I was raised in the Mid West and my working-class family believed art was a waste of time and money - the luxury of the wealthy and educated. It wasn't until my forties that I picked up a pencil and a paint brush and have been going at it, is as if trying to make up for lost time, ever since. I am a member of City Art Gallery and Art Span and am very excited to be a part of MAU.

Artist Statement:
I was introduced to encaustics in 2005 and instantly fell in love with the medium. Initially I used the thick, clumsy wax as if it were acrylics, making still lifes, figures, and animals. I worked each piece over and over, burning and re-painting in order to get the detail I was after. I continue to experiment with the medium, and have begun to include paper, fabric, and photo and image transfers in my work. My pieces are inspired by images and events in my daily life. I live in the Mission and am in awe of the urban birds that often entertain me for hours, any time, any day, provided I remember to look up.
